Today in History revisits the Thursday, Nov. 8, 1956, edition of the Grand Forks Herald and highlights a story of gasoline prices dropping due to a price war in Greater Grand Forks...to .223 cents a gallon for regular gasoline. City Gasoline Prices Down Gasoline prices at most Greater Grand Forks service stations Thursday dropped from 4 to 8 cents per gallon as the result of a “price war.” ADVERTISEMENT An East Grand Forks station quoted regular gasoline prices at .223 cents a gallon. Grand Forks stations were also selling regular at four and six cents per gallon less than the normal level. Similar decreases were reported in premium gas prices.
